About Ali Moulavi

Politics starts with people

I created Politics & Society to gather my reflections, articles and opinion pieces on how society is changing — in Sweden and across the world. Here I write about issues such as safety, crime, welfare, inclusion and European cooperation.

Who am I — and why do I write?

Welcome to the About page. Here I share who I am, what has shaped me — and why topics like hope for the future, safety and inclusion matter so deeply to me.

We talk about politics every day — in the media, at work and around the dinner table. But what does politics actually mean? The word comes from the Greek polis, meaning city or community. In ancient Greece, politics concerned questions of common life. That original sense remains: politics is about how we distribute resources, organise our societies and which values guide our decisions.

In a polarised time, I believe blogs and longer texts can serve as bridges. They create space for reflection — without oversimplifying. For me, that’s a deliberate choice: to write in a format where complex questions get the time they require, and where nuance doesn’t have to be cut to fit a headline.

Blogging is more than having an opinion. It is also a responsibility: to present ideas honestly and respectfully, to invite thought and dialogue. A text can spark engagement, recognition or reflection — and that’s where the blog format shows its strength.

When I write, I don’t just want to analyse — I want to understand, challenge and propose. My blog is an extension of my civic engagement: a place where ideas can grow, be tested and shared.

Civic engagement — from politics to everyday life

My name is Ali Moulavi and I have been engaged in social issues for a long time. Between 2000 and 2012 I served as a municipal politician in Uppsala, with a particular focus on integration, migration policy, sport and youth issues. I left elected politics for family reasons — but never the civic engagement. Politics has always been, and will always be, part of my life.

Through my professional life I have met thousands of people. Many express frustration about the direction society is taking — and that politics can feel more symbolic than transformative. In those conversations I learned to see politics from the perspective of everyday life — to understand how decisions really affect people’s lives.

How do people view society? What nurtures hope — and what breeds mistrust? I believe politics only becomes meaningful when it starts from people’s stories, needs and living conditions. A sustainable society is not built from the top down — but from the bottom up, through participation, dialogue and respect.

Youth, inclusion and belief in the future

My engagement began in the local community — not in the corridors of power. I have always been passionate about youth issues. As chair of a local football club I’ve led several projects for young people — both on and off the pitch. Young people are not just our future — the future is theirs. We must build a society where the young feel they have a place, a voice and a real chance to make a difference.

Over time my engagement has broadened. I also write about the EU, the euro, NATO, the war in Ukraine, trade, tariffs and global conflicts. Climate and energy issues are close to my heart as well. On politikochsamhalle.se I collect my writing on Sweden, Europe and the world.

I am critical of political approaches that divide people by background. That risks creating an “us and them” mindset. For me, politics is about seeing reality — not dodging it through token gestures or simplified answers.

A page for conversation — not ready-made answers

This page is not just a presentation — it is an invitation. About me is not only about my background, but about an ongoing commitment. I want to show that values, experiences and ideas have a place in public debate — whether the issue is local or global.

I see a need for platforms where people can think and read freely — without everything being filtered through party politics. This page is an attempt to contribute to an open conversation where both sharp thinking and respect can live side by side. I believe clear communication, reflection and curiosity are crucial for building shared understanding — not more division.

My hope is that politikochsamhalle.se becomes a resource for more than the already engaged. A place where the curious can start. Where those who feel frustrated can find words. And where anyone looking for context can recognise themselves.

I don’t have ready-made answers — but I do have a will to understand, to listen and to contribute. Politics must be rooted in people’s real lives, not in party lines. That’s why this is not just an archive of texts — but a living place for dialogue.

Do you recognise yourself in something I write? Or do you want to challenge my ideas? Feel free to get in touch via the contact page — your voice matters. I believe in open conversation, and that engagement can take many forms.

By writing I want to keep the conversation alive. By listening I want to learn more. And by staying open to dialogue, I believe we can, together, help build a society with more trust, sustainability and humanity.

Welcome to politikochsamhalle.se — and thank you for taking the time to read, think and engage.
